By: Shreya Mishra

In the week’s edition of “In The News” Shreya tells us way out of strict rules; about the disappearing rock and also who is the best teacher in the world!

Who is the best teacher

To Sir, With Love!

The Global Teacher Prize is a $1 million prize which is given annually to an exceptional teacher who has given outstanding contribution to their profession. Teachers from all over the world participate in this and they received more than 5000 nominations from over 127 countries in the year 2014. So you know it’s pretty huge.

And this year this very prestigious prize was won by our very own Ranjitsinh Desale, a teacher from a small village in Maharashtra, India. The prize was given to him for his extensive work towards girl child education and being the kind hearted teacher that he is, he announced that he will be sharing his prize money with other runner ups. Awww well that’s sweet now, isn’t it? Now that's how he made ‘sharing is caring’ trending!

Success can bend the rules

Success can bend the rules

In this week’s episode of BTS creating history, because they actually do that A LOT, we’ll tell you how their country changed a major government rule just for them. Talk about some impact! So there’s this rule in South Korea where it is compulsory for every abled young man to serve for a certain amount of time in the military between the ages of 18 and 28. You know with all their issues with their sister country North Korea!

But this age was extended from 28 to 30 years just for k-pop’s favourite Bangtan Boys as they contribute to the country’s economy and even promote their culture all around the world. This came as a major relief to the army because their oldest member, Jin just turned 28 on the 4th of December. Phew! Wish we could also get a reprieve from our exams!

The case of the mysterious monoliths

The case of the mysterious monoliths

If Geography is your favourite subject, you have some real life mysteries to solve! You might have come across the case of the mysterious monoliths on social media. For those who don’t know, a monolith is a geological feature consisting of a single massive stone or rock, which gets exposed because of erosion. And it has only been getting crazier. The first monolith was spotted in the middle of a desert in Utah, USA on 18 November, 2020.

And as if the origin of this object wasn’t mystery enough, it disappeared into thin air just as mystically as it appeared. And since then, the total number of sightings has been brought up to 6, the last two being in the Netherlands and England. There have been countless theories and memes about this but we just hope the metal isn’t from Asgard or Wakanda;) ( places in Thor and Black Panther) 2020 has already been enough!

Christopher Nolan's new Tenet!

Christopher Nolan’s new Tenet!

Christopher Nolan has forever been known for his complicated and cerebral plots in the movies. He has created some awesome movies, be it the ‘Batman’ series or the mind-boggling ‘Inception’, the epic ‘Interstellar” or the world war 2 based ‘Dunkirk’ starring our favorite, Harry Styles.

And keeping up with this reputation, he just released a new movie called ‘TENET’, which is also among the first theatre releases all over the world in 2020. The movie is science-fiction action-thriller and is blowing people away with its exhilarating plot. It’s been called bold, baffling and is said to be even more complicated than the 2010 blockbuster ‘Inception’. And now that we’re almost finished with action packed 2020, here’s a new and fiction movie to watch in our December vacations. Have fun!

East or West, Bengal is the best

East or West, Bengal is the best

The state government of Bengal has decided to hand out tabs, (yes tablets!) to almost 9.5 lakh students who are appearing for their higher secondary examinations this year. I know! My first thought was wow, free tablets too!

But we are talking about students who don’t even have smartphones or computers to their avail. I mean imagine not having these devices in the literal era of online classes. That is the major reason why the government decided to take this huge step towards their education. Plus they can use it for their further education too. It’s a win-win!
