Kaavan leaves, PubG returns!

By: Shreya Mishra

It’s been quite an exciting week for teenagers and the issues we love! From free sanitary napkins, to an elephant being freed into the wild, Indian teens acing international exams and a possible return of PubG in the very near future, we have all the excitement covered in this edition of In The News!

Free sanitary napkins!

Free sanitary napkins!

Here is some really wonderful news this week for girls! Before you start jumping on your seats, let me tell you that the news is from Scotland, which recently became the first ever country in the world to make sanitary products free for whoever needs them.

The bill was passed unanimously and brought into action from November 24 this year. And ever since it hit the news, the world has been showering the country with love and appreciation for taking this huge step against “period poverty”. What’s that? Sanitary pads can be really expensive to afford which means that some of us have to use less hygienic ways of managing our periods. Free sanitary napkins to all the girls means we all can have a safe and happy period.

Did you know Scotland was also the first country in 2017 to make sanitary products available for free in universities? Way to go, Scotland! We can’t wait for India to start this initiative too!

Home is where the friend is!

Home is where the friend is!

Don’t we all love companionship? We can’t imagine our life without our friends and family. Did you know the same is the case with elephants? Our favourite trunked animals cannot live without companionship

However, sadly so, an elephant named Kaavan, also known as the world’s loneliest elephant, had been all alone in a zoo since 1985 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

He used to share his enclosure with another elephant named Saheli up until 2012, when sadly she passed away. After the sad demise of his partner, there were demands for Kaavan to be freed to a sanctuary to allow him to live with other elephants.

Thankfully, lonely Kaavan found a friend online and one with quite an influence. We are talking about world renowned pop star, Cher, who along with her NGO had been fighting for Kaavan to be transferred to a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia. Her efforts finally bore fruit and just last week Kaavan moved to a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia to live happily ever after. The latest is that he has already made a new friend. How exciting is that!

East or West, Indian teens are the best! We have always known it. Haven’t we? Now we have proof!

This year, 127 students from India bagged a total of 152 awards for their outstanding performance in the November 2019 and March 2020 tests held by Cambridge IGCSE.

The Cambridge IGCSE is a recognized and renowned international qualification test for 14-16 year olds recognized by universities worldwide.

Indian teens bagged the ‘top in the world’, ‘top in the country’ as well as the ‘high achievement’ awards! Aren’t we a cool bunch?

PubG announces a return

Headline got you excited? See, we told you we are saving the best one for the last! So dear friends, ever since PubG was banned in India by the government, gamers have been waiting for a comeback.

There were constant rumours about when or how the master game will return! And now there is an official statement on their Instagram page and we can’t keep calm.

‘Tell your squads we’re coming back!’

Although there was no disclosure of a date or anything but the post alone is a cause of excitement for the gamers in town!

Good time to brush up on online safety skills
